SEDGWICK & CEDAR now at The Layup 613

Sedgwick & Cedar is proud to celebrate the pioneering spirit, creativity and the style where Hip Hop began in 1973 at the Sedgwick Avenue & Cedar Park intersection of The Bronx, NYC.

We are driven every day to represent the style of the original DJ’s, MC’s, B-boy Crews and Grafitti Artists that laid the foundation of Hip Hop at the first house parties, block parties and park jams. We come with “much respect” to honor those that paved the way for what has now emerged as the most popular cultural phenomenon of this century.

Sedgwick & Cedar Vintage Clothing Co., “Authentic Brand – Legendary Style Since 1973”

Just arrived at the shop, S&C shirts of some of the pioneers as well as the original flyer collection, featuring the actual artwork from old school handbills for classic jams of back in the day! Limited quantities so don't sleep... stay tuned for more from Sedgwick & Cedar coming soon!

Echo Unlimited "Underground Airwaves"

I remember back in 1995 I got this tape "Underground Airwaves Vol IV" when I was down in Florida at some shop when I copped my first Echo hat, and t-shirt (this is before they changed it to ECKO).

I remember how hyped I was when I came back to Ottawa with this Echo gear and people were buggin on it. I was loving this tape, it had Shabaam Sahdiq, Ran Reed, Problems and L- Swift from Natural Elements among other dope underground MC's out of the Lyricist Lounge... these tapes were made by Echo and Lyricist Lounge and were promos given out with Echo shirts in the mid to late 90's.... there are at least 6 or more volumes with early tracks from some crowd favourites like Mos Def, Mr. Voodoo, Cellaa Dwellas and more. Definitely the precursor to Rawkus Records and their later release "Lyricist Lounge Vol 1".

I lost my copy of that tape ages ago, so I was hype to find some DL's on the net, shouts to VERGE and anyone else that uploaded these gems (the tapes go for over $60 on ebay)

peep vol 2-5 here at the T.R.O.Y. Blog

Sloppy White Mixes

People that know us well, know of our love for obscure golden era hip hop and Sloppy White brings some unearthed 12 inch gems and rarely heard album cuts from a few known artists (Maestro Fresh Wes, Godfather Don, Nice & Smooth and early Freddie Foxx), but mostly mc's and groups not even I heard of before peeping these mixes.

The dope part is he breaks down each mix track by track on his website giving insight to would-be diggers on which artist, record, album, year of release and how hard it might be to find a copy for yourself.

These mixes are available for free, here!
